10 October 2022: Recruitment campaign 'Run Deep' seeks to attract new talent

The New Zealand Defence Force has launched a new recruitment campaign that aims to highlight the extraordinary experience available for those who join the Royal New Zealand Navy, New Zealand Army or Royal New Zealand Air Force.

It’s a pathway that offers unrivalled bonds between mates, built by experiencing unique, intense, life-changing situations together. It’s this deep connection that makes a career in the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) so unlike any other vocation.

To celebrate and share these incredible career opportunities with rangatahi and potential recruits, the NZDF new recruitment brand platform RUN DEEP will tell the stories of the deep connections defence personnel create with their colleagues.

These shared experiences have been expressed as personal “CODEWORDS” which capture the unique experiences Navy, Army and Air Force team members have had together: codewords including LASAGNE, SQUEAKY, WHAIKŌRERO, KOALA, MO’UNGA AFI and ICESTOCK.

Kiwis are invited to unlock these CODEWORDS by watching over 30 personnel from the Navy, Army and Air Force unpacking their unique codeword and sharing their stories.

Their personal “CODEWORD” is revealed in one-minute videos, showcasing the bond created through active service. It gives potential recruits an insight to some of the rich experiences on offer in the Navy, Army and Air Force.

The CODEWORDS stories can be found at codewords.nz.

9 September 2022: NZDF mourns death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) acknowledges with sadness the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Monarch who had many deep and abiding ties with New Zealand’s military forces.

Chief of Defence Force Air Marshal Kevin Short said Her Majesty’s ongoing dedication to her duties was an inspiration to our Defence Force, particularly in the challenging times throughout her reign.

“Her dedication and commitment resonated with us all as it is the ultimate example of service which underpins everything we do as members of the New Zealand Defence Force,” he said.

“While there will be a sombre mood acknowledging Her Majesty’s death, it is also a time to appropriately celebrate her more than 70 years as our Monarch and her contribution to all walks of life and to the Armed Forces.”

Friday 22nd January 2021: New Online Aptitude Testing

In January 2021, the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) launched contemporary, online aptitude testing to replace the legacy paper based method.

By operating online aptitude assessments, the NZDF provides a fresh, and relatable testing environment that measures Numerical Ability, Deductive Reasoning, Inductive Reasoning and Mechanical Comprehension. These tests assess cognitive ability on subjects, rather than measuring the particular subject knowledge base. To be as competitive as possible in the overall selection process, candidates should aim to their highest standard of submission in the new online aptitiude tests.

There will be the requirement for some candidates to sit the new online aptitude test as they participated under the old aptitude model (known as the R-Series), which has now been replaced.

Candidates can only submit two attempts of the online aptitude test. If a candidate fails their first attempt, there will be a mandatory six month stand down prior to sitting the second, and final attempt.

Please contact your Candidate Engagement Facilitator (CEF) in the first instance, or submit a contact request here.

The New Zealand Defence Force are committed to serving and assisting New Zealand through the rapidly evolving COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to follow Government guidelines and Ministry of Health advice as the safety of candidates and staff is our top priority.
